The Cisco Academy is a world-wide training program launched back in 1997 that teaches students networking and IT skills, as well as basic computer engineering. Through the programs and courses offered by the Academy, students learn about the fundamentals of computer networking, how to setup a network, troubleshooting, and maintaining a network.

Over the years the Cisco Academy has undergone many changes to keep up with the technological advancements in the IT and networking field, yet their goal remains the same – to give students the best educational straining available. Today, there are over 9,000 Academies in over 165 different countries with an active student enrollment number of around of approximately 900,000.

By using teaching methods that include both print material, digital material, and hands-on training, students get the best training possible. Sections of the course may involve projects, such as creating a network-ready strip of Category 5 cable and crimping the RJ-45 connector onto the ends. After the student has completed the project, the cable will be tested using a meter to see it the connection remains active.

Students who pass certain Cisco Academy training programs can receive certifications for their respective course. The CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate ) is one such certification course which teaches students how to setup, configure, use, and troubleshoot small to medium-sized routed and switched networks.

A more advanced certification course offered by the Academy is the CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional). This course focuses on how to properly operate Cisco networking devices, and IP networking, routing, and security.

While the CCNA and CCNP are the two most common certification courses students enroll in, there are several others offered at the Cisco Academy, such as CCDP (Cisco Certified Design Professional), CCIP (Cisco Certified Internet work Professional), CARNAP-Security (Cisco Certified Network Professional-Security), CCSP (Cisco Certified Security Professional), and CCNP Voice (Cisco Certified Network Professional Voice).

At the end of a Cisco Academy certification course, the student must be able to pass an exam in order to be certified. If you’re interested in enrolling in Cisco Academy, take a few minutes to look through all of the certification courses available to find one that will help you meet your goals.

It’s important to note that there are three different levels of certification offered through the Academy. The lowest form, Associate, is the type of certification you should seek if you’re looking to get started in the field of Cisco networking. It’s intended for entry-level students who have little to no experience in networking. A step up from the Associate is the Professional certification, which can’t be acquired by the trainee until they have passed the previous certification. Last, is the Expert level of certification, which is the highest offered by the company to date.

If you have a passion for hands-on networking and are seeking a new career path, you should consider a certification at the Cisco Academy. On average, a CCNA certified technician can earn between $66,000 to $86,000 per year. Although, the more certifications you have, the more money you’re likely to earn.

Cisco Connect is a useful set of software tools that help you get your computer connected to your wireless network quickly. It also provides a management system for your Linksys Wireless router that allows you to configure:

Network Security

Access control for guests

Child lockout and parental controls

Plus other more in-depth features of the router

Installation
To install Cisco Connect, you will need the Cisco Connect software CD that is packaged with all Linksys wireless routers since mid 2011. Another option is to insert the USB key that comes with the Valet wireless access point.

Installation is a simple process of going through a setup wizard then allowing it to update the hardware if there are any patches available directly from Cisco. Fortunately, Cisco Connect automatically detects updates when they become available and allows you to install them at your own convenience.

Although you can configure your router manually by logging into it, you won’t have access to Cisco Connect without the software CD. If you no longer have this disc, you will need to contact Cisco HomeSupport via the website or toll free number.

Compatibility
It is worth noting that Cisco Connect will only work with wireless devices that are capable of support WPA or WPA2 security levels. Cisco enforces this to ensure that all devices on the network are as secure as possible.

At present, Cisco Connect is only available for Linksys e-series devices as it was specifically designed to work with them. For example the E1000, E2000, E3000, M10 and M20.

There are versions of Cisco Connect available for both Windows & Mac operating systems but you will need to have either Safari 3, Firefox 2, Google Chrome or IE6 – or any later versions of these to be able to access the Cisco Connect Software.

Download
You can download the Cisco Connect Software here (link coming soon!)

If you are willing to go with IT or networking industry then going with Cisco certifications is surely the right choice to go with, as with any Cisco certification you go you can surely reap a whole lot of profits from it mainly High pay and a job security, and surely these are the things that one needs the most in his job and you would be getting all that just by going that with Cisco certification.

However Cisco certification is not just a course that you can go through easily, you need to invest your time as well as money before you can actually reap the profits that you would get from this job. The best thing about different Cisco certification is that anyone can jump in this field, as you it is not important that you have some specific degree along your side before you can go with Cisco certifications.

Cisco certifications surely has a lot to offer, however the cost of study, courses, exams, books and other studying and training material might be expensive for some people, however the fact it one surely get a whole of things if he invests his time as well as money. Cisco certifications always gives out fruitful results therefore one also has the option to apply for the study loan from the banks or other financial institutions, other than that if your previous study record is found to be good then you would might get a lower percentage of interest to be paid back.

The examination fees for a CCNA examination is two hundred and fifty USD, students who are willing to give examinations from other countries can convert this amount in their own currency and can pay in that as well! Similarly if you are willing to give two separate exams for CCNA then you would be charged One hundred and twenty five USD per exam.

The examination fee for CCNP is three hundred USD. The cost of CCIE examinations are higher than both of them as the CCIE lab exams costs along $1,500 per attempt, and is non returnable, hence when you give examination of CCIE or any other certification you surely need to study hard with the right material.

When we talk about the cost of study material, courses cost etc. they are surely very different. Universities, colleges as well as other certification training camps cost differently than one another. It has been observed that the cost of study material, teaching, practice etc for CCNA is same over all with a slight changes, while when it comes to CCNP and CCIE the training costs, books, courses etc has quite much different and they are surely very high, the reason for this huge change in cost is all due to the expensive training materials and equipments that are used in CCNP and CCIE training. One can assume that higher a college or university is charging for the CCNP and CCIE study material and equipment better they would be able to provide you with the right equipments and materials.

A Cisco Certified Network Associate (CNNA) requires knowledge of computer network security, configuring, and installation. Cisco certification can be obtained through the Cisco Networking Academy. People seeking this certification will need to pass a required exam to prove their proficiency in computer network management. Students have found the Cisco Networking Academy curriculum to be beneficial for the preparation for the CCNA exam.

The curriculum of the Cisco course includes several areas pertaining to computer networking. The students learn to install and configure switched and medium-sized networks. Should problems arise, the students learn how to troubleshoot the network. The class also teaches the basics of computer security and wireless networking.

Cisco Networking Academy is taught through a combination of learning material delivered across the Internet to the student and classes at colleges and academies. This network is currently active in over one hundred sixty countries. The courses teach the material in a variety of ways including through gaming, social networking, and demonstrations.

Some students who have taken the course have found it to be helpful in learning the necessary information to pass the certification exam. Some programs that teach the fundamentals of switched and medium-sized networks in preparation for the CNNA exam consist of more than one course. An alternative to attending a class is to use the textbooks on their own to study for the exam. The disadvantage to studying without professional guidance is the lack of personal instruction and practice that may be included in a class.

Students have found that courses that include labs that allow them to practice their skills on the equipment to help develop their skills. Some academies offer students ongoing access to the labs even after the course is over so that the graduates can continue to practice their skills. This can be a valuable asset since the information and equipment can change over time. Access to a lab can help an IT professional remain current in their knowledge and skills.

Several books on the market are designed to be study guides for the CCNA exam. Finding a book that teaches the necessary concepts and contains up-to-date information may be a challenge. Some students have found the books to be frustrating and recommend taking courses instead. A few students who struggled with other books eventually find one that helps them pass the test.

The certification is a path to a career in computer networking. The individual invests in their career by taking the courses necessary to not only pass the exam but gain the knowledge and skills to excel in the workplace. The Cisco certification lasts for three years before it must be renewed. In order for people to retain certification, they need to pass the exam before their current certification expires.

This can be said as the motivational thing as well for you to be on the track for CCIE.

There are many jobs within the IT industry that pay extremely well including those that revolve around networks. So if you want the opportunity to be able to apply for such positions in the future then training and getting Cisco Certification should be something that you should be seriously considering doing.

In fact without such certification the possibility of you actually getting a job in the world of IT is greatly reduced. Even if you have only obtained the basic certificate (CCNA) the opportunities of getting a well-paid job are much better than against someone who hasn’t.

So why should you be really considering getting a Cisco Certification? Below we take a look at just some of the reasons for doing so.

Reason 1 – The name Cisco is one that is very well respected and trusted in the IT community and is one of the leading providers of networking and IT solutions. As a result it provides them with a great deal of credibility in the world of technology and in turn this means that employers trust workers more who have Cisco certificates.

In fact who is better to test the skills of those who are using the technology than those who actually created it? By adding such a certificate to your resume means that you benefit from having a name on there that is considered to be reliable.

Reason 2 – As you will discover there are several different types of certificates with Cisco name to them that you can get. As well as specializing in computer networking they also provide training and certification areas of IT. So don’t limit yourself to the usual ones such as CCNA or CCNP. If you are in fact interested more in the area known as network security the obtain a CCIP. What is important however before you sign up to any course is that you actually look at what subject interests you the most and which one you feel will help to advance your career within IT more.

Reason 3 – With this particular certification it enables you to follow a very distinct path in relation to your career goals. Today there are seven main paths that one can follow in order to obtain Cisco certification. You can either follow the path that revolves around switching and routing or the one that revolves around design. Or you could follow the path that revolves around Network Security, Storage Networking, Voice, and Wireless or to become a Service Provider.

However be aware that each one of the paths includes a separate set of certifications that enable you to build one on another. In turn this will help prepare you when you are required to take on more responsibility.

Reason 4 – The way in which Cisco has structured their certificates helps to make it much easier to move from one level of expertise to another. Most involved in IT will start of obtaining the CCENT or CCNA Cisco Certifications and these are the ones that prove most valuable. As well as providing a boost to your career they also provide opportunities to move in to more specialized areas and in turn of course earn more money.

If you are at all interested in obtaining Cisco certification it is important that you know which ones are available. They are all different and each one may well have several subsets of certifications to be obtained. So actually determining which one is which can be tough. In order to help you decide which of these you may want to consider training for we take a brief look at each one.

CCNA
This is the entry-level Cisco certification and should be taken by anyone who is interested in furthering their network or system administration career. However this isn’t the kind of certification that developers should consider taking. You need to be aware that this certification doesn’t actually give you a very solid foundation into the more complex aspects of networking, but is in fact the first one you need to obtain if you want to then obtain higher level certificates from Cisco. In fact in order to obtain or maintain the higher certifications you do require an active CCNA.

CCNP
This is the next certification you should be looking to obtain after getting your CCNA. However you don’t need to actually consider taking this one if you find that you happy in your roll a junior system administrator or desktop support analyst. This certification is really for those who would like to see their careers advance and would like to become a senior network or system administrator in the future.

Along with the CCNP there are other professional level Cisco certifications you can obtain including CCDP, CCIP and CCNP Security. But unless the job you are applying for happens to require a specific application then getting the CCNP should be sufficient.

CCIE
Of all the Cisco certifications one can get these days this is considered to actually be the most difficult in the world, in fact very few professionals who work in networking have been able to obtain this. Certainly the training you undertake to obtain this certification is something that throughout a person’s career in IT is unlikely to be something that they ever need to use.

However by getting such a certification you are clearly showing how knowledgeable you are on the subject and could certainly do no harm in helping to advance your career further. As you would expect with a CCIE certificate you are going to be able to apply for jobs that come with much higher salaries and on your resume employers will find this very attractive.

Hopefully the information that we have provided above relating to Cisco Certification will in fact help you to determine just which one you should be applying for. Plus don’t forget all the training you undertake in order to obtain such certification is worth the effort when you begin to get offered positions in companies that are very well paid.

Whether with which certification or exam you are planning to go with it is always really very important that you should know and understand the exam format, as well as your targeted route that what you are planning to achieve and what you are striving for. This is considered to be very important, as this allows you to avoid any kind of confusion during examination and your academic future, as you would know that what is your next stop and how can you perform in a better way and how much time you can give to yourself in order to complete a single set of certification, and this is because it would help you to set up the time to achieve your desired targets and for good!

The very first thing that you need to do is to get some simple guidelines about the exams, eligibility, courses, fee structure etc for CCNA to CCIE, as it would help you to understand the things in a much brighter and positive way. Never think about all the certification at once, if you are willing to do till CCIE then the first thing that you need to do is to learn and know completely about CCNA while keeping the basic things of CCNP and CCIE in your mind as well, and this is because without CCNA you won’t be able to do CCNP or CCIE, therefore it’s a good idea to not think much about them and just focus on CCNA for the time being.

CCNA is the most affordable one as compared to CCNP and CCIE and its quite simple as well, as it only involves a computer based written examination. You can give your CCNA test either in single time or by dividing it into two, it totally depends upon you, and you won’t be finding any difference among them.

CCNP examination has two different levels as well and you can choose to go with any of them, however both of them have minor difference, you can choose to go with anyone you like. If you go with level one examination you have to give a total of three 4 papers these include: 642 – 901 paper, 642 – 845 paper, 642 – 825 paper and 842 – 812 paper, all such papers are recognized with these numbers. However if you are going with level two, everything remains the same except that 642 – 901 and 842 – 812 exam is given as combined an equivalent paper of 2 hours, however other papers remains the same, hence allowing you to save money of a single paper and it does not affect in anyway so you can go with any level you want.

After completing your CCNA and CCNP finally you will be eligible to give CCIE examination. In CCIE examination you have to give a computer based written exam followed by a lab exam and the cost for both of them are different from the other one. The cost of written exam is $350 USD while for lab exam the fee is $1,500 USD alone excluding the travelling and lodging charges. One can give lab examination within eighteen months after he has successfully cleared his written examination, and if he fails in the lab examination, he can attempt as many times as possible within the next three years to pass the CCIE lab exam, and after you have cleared your CCIE examination then you would finally become a CCIE professional.
